The Township Of Bloomfield is an extremely historic residential area in Essex County, New Jersey. It was incorporated on March 23rd, 1812, after years of growth and expansion set it apart from the Newark Township, originally founded in 1666. The township took its name from the Presbyterian parish of the surrounding area, which was named for then-governor Joseph Bloomfield.
